NEW DREAM DAY--IT'S VIRTUAL MAYOR TIME!
We don't intend that The First Five Days end after five days--it's really just the beginning of something that will shape the rest of your life. As part of our commitment to seek out and emulate the best practices of people and companies around the world we have found one that we really like: Google's Innovation Time Off.
Basically, Google encourages its engineers to spend 20% of their time (one day per week) on projects that interest them. According to Google, 50% of their new product launches have come from the 20% Innovation Time Off. Nice return on investment!
Following Google's lead, we propose that, after the First Five Days, every Monday be New Dream Day. That's when every person becomes a Virtual Mayor of their unique idea(s) and continues to grow projects and new visions for the planet as we change our dream to one that is environmentally sustainable, socially just and spiritually fulfilling. And it doesn't have to be Monday--we just think it would be fun to shift TGIF to YIM (Yes! It's Monday) as we practice innovation!
Alternatively, if you attend a school that has a course rotation schedule, consider having one common rotation for a New Dream Class--imagine the possibilities!
